YOGA…

Macmillan currently recommends Yoga as a complementary therapy, being a safe and gentle mind-body practice for those people living with cancer. Yoga can be practiced alongside conventional medicine and during/post treatment. Studies have shown that Yoga positivity influences health and well-being and that relaxation/meditation is an effective therapy for people with cancer.

What can yoga do?

Yoga is a holistic practice, meaning it approaches a person as a “whole” - physically, energetically and mentally.

The Journal of Clinical Oncology found through its trials “that Yoga practice substantially reduced fatigue and inflammation during cancer treatment and post treatment increased vitality”.

Yoga can help reduce/relieve:

  • Fatigue

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Emotional stress and depression

  • Nausea

  • Pain and tension

  • High blood pressure

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Physical discomfort such as joint stiffness

Yoga can help you:

  • Cope better with the side effects of cancer and its treatment - short and long term

  • Feel calmer, more relaxed

  • Sleep better

  • Lift your spirits when not feeling your best

  • Improve lung function

  • Feel in control of your personal ‘well-being’ - and what you can do

  • Enhance body awareness and posture

  • Rebuild physical strength and mobility

  • Cope better with stressful challenges

  • Feel more self-compassion and self-kindness

  • Feel more grounded / emotionally stable
